Become a Habitat Volunteer!

  • NEW Volunteers'September Newsletter
  • Volunteers'August Newsletter
  • Habitat for Humanity would not be able to exist without the help of volunteers. Whether temporary or on a consistent basis, we are always looking for those that are willing to donate their time and efforts to our mission of providing quality, affordable homes to people in need. We hope to see you sometime!

At Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity, there is a diverse range of volunteer opportunities available. Our volunteer needs are ever-changing, so submit a Volunteer Information Form found on the "Forms" link above. We'll do our best to match you up with our current needs. Here's what volunteers can do:

    ReSale Store
Sales floor representative - Involves multiple duties such as customer service, sales, stocking, and lite cleaning.
Our ReSale Store is the biggest contributor to our home building fund. Help us continue that!

Donation refurbishment - Involves the cleaning, revitalization, and sorting of donated items and furniture for future
resale. Clean, tidy, and functional items sell for more. Help us earn more money to build homes!

Furniture mover - Involves the loading of furniture into customer vehicles, and the moving of furniture throughout the ReSale Store for sales display. Strong and able bodied persons need apply!
    Warehouse
Shipping & receiving - Involves the loading, unloading, and
sorting of sold and donated items. This is the backbone
of the ReSale Store-everything the store sells passes
through the warehouse. Appliance tester - Involves the testing of household electrical appliances such as refrigerators, washers/dryers, TV's,
etc. Habitat strives to sell working and functional equipment-not junk. Help us with that goal!
Furniture/appliance mover - Involves the loading and unloading of sold and donated items from customer vehicles.

Most of the moving occurs in the warehouse and ReSale Store appliance area. It's better than going to the gym! Construction Building site - Involves a wide range of construction tasks associated with the main purpose of Habitat,
building quality, affordable homes. The tasks include the installation of drywall, doors & windows, tile, framing,
insulation, sod, roofing, painting, site clean-up, trim & carpentry, vinyl siding, and wire shelves. Deconstruction - Involves the removal of large, donated home items such as cabinets, windows, doors, commodes
sinks, light fixtures, etc. for ReSale. The polar opposite of home building--here's your chance to tear down the house!
Office, Committees, & Special Events Mailings, misc. office duties, and database administration - Volunteer opportunities in our offices are
answering phones, light cleaning, database administration, website maintenance, and larges mailings.
Committees - We are in occasional need of volunteers to serve on some of our committees, such as Family Selection,
Volunteer Committee, Collegiate Challenge, & Special Events. Help us plan and prioritize!
Special Events - Volunteers are almost always needed at special events Habitat partakes in such as our alternative
spring break program called Collegiate Challenge, fundraising events, the Punta Gorda Block Party, the
    5K Turkey Trot, and more.

    Saturday Build Volunteer Opportunities

    Coming back soon!

Habitat realizes that many potential construction volunteers have busy weekday schedules. Our Saturday Builds provide an excellent opportunity for individuals and groups to help out at our construction sites! For information on upcoming Builds please e-mail here and type "Keep me updated" in the subject line. If you are interested in signing your group up for a Saturday Build, contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 639-3162, or via e-mail here.

Disclaimer: As much as we try to plan each Saturday's work activity, there will be times that you will be asked to do an unexpected job. If this happens to you, smile, nod your head vigorously when given your new task, and then proceed with unbridled enthusiasm. This cooperative response from you is much preferred than a response of ranting, foot stomping, fist shaking, shouting, finger pointing or sniveling.

*All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Release Waiver form and a Volunteer Information form prior to volunteering. If you
are part of a group, only the group contact/leader needs to fill out the Volunteer Information form. Both of these forms are
available by clicking on the "Forms" link at the top of the page.

*Due to our insurance regulations, minors 13 years of age and under are not allowed at our construction sites.
Additionally, due to federal construction regulations, minors 14-15 years of age are limited to certain duties such as
painting, laying sod, and site clean-up. Minors 16-17 years of age are allowed to perform all general construction
duties except those that involves machinery or roof work.
*Scheduling conflict? Tell us--we'll work with you.

*If you can't volunteer with us right now...keep us in mind for the future. We're not going anywhere.

*Questions? Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Claudia Kohrt at 639-3162, or via e-mail here.

    *Thanks for volunteering!!!
